Our kitchen cupboards fell off the wall and the service from Carina was appalling.
Up until this catastrophe, we’d had nothing but positive things to say about Carina. They were excellent during the design and purchasing process, always friendly, efficient, and helpful. However, like insurance, you only find out how good a company is when things go wrong. And now, our view of Carina could not be worse. I would never use them again.
We loved our new kitchen. The installation was great, and we’d sung Carina’s praises to anyone who’d listen. But 10 months after installation, disaster struck: the wall cupboards fell off the wall. The fittings had pulled away, damaging the plasterboard behind. All our cups, glasses, and serving ware were smashed all over the kitchen. Food was contaminated by glass shards. The cupboards’ weight dented our work surface, crushed the microwave, and damaged the hob and floor. It was a Sunday, so the next day, a Carina fitter came to survey the damage. He assured me it’d never happened before and promised a call from Carina and I wouldn’t be out of pocket.
New carcasses were fitted that week, but the doors were delayed. They gave us a replacement microwave, but that was it. The promised phone call never came. Nor did any apology. We chased Carina several times and ended up visiting the shop to get answers, which were unsatisfactory. They tried to pass blame to their fitter, but we sought legal advice and confirmed that the fitter was part of Carina.
To this day, Carina has never acknowledged fault or offered an apology. Despite our clear photos of the damage, they denied any liability. To quote their response: “…Carina do not accept liability for the damage to property… For the avoidance of doubt, any claim for negligence, breach of contract, or otherwise, is strictly denied. We do not make any offer of damages or compensation.” If this were you, would you want to do business with them? It’s ironic when, in the same letter, they claim, “Carina strive to go the extra mile for their customer base,” which clearly is not the case.
Carina’s further correspondence stated, “All claims made by you are denied and you are put to strict proof of any of the allegations made.” The facts are clear:
The cupboards were on the wall for 10 months before pulling away, indicating something failed.
The house was empty at the time.
The photos speak for themselves, if proof were needed
Carina’s communication was non-existent. No calls, no apologies until we forced them to speak to us.
They denied all wrongdoing but were quick to replace the cupboards, microwave, and have their fitter repair the floor. This was framed as a "gesture of goodwill."
We consulted professional builders and kitchen fitters who confirmed that the fittings used to affix the cupboards were insufficient. We raised this with Carina, but they refuted it.
We sought minimal damages, only the cost to replace the damaged items, which we estimated at around £600, not to mention the sentimental value of wedding gifts that were destroyed. Carina offered £300 on the condition that the matter be closed and that we agree not to disclose, review, or discuss their work, service, or products, except where required by law or court order.
For the sake of £300, I felt it was more important to bring this to light rather than remain silent. So, please read this review to inform your own opinion.
This entire experience has left me with terrible anxiety about this happening again, and I would not wish anyone else to go through what we’ve experienced. I will never use Carina again. As I said, the company is great until something goes wrong, and then their true colours show. Once that happens, you’re on your own—and out of pocket.
